Set Up Camp

We've had an interesting road to get here, to say the least.

But we are here and all set up and that's what matters.

-mice infestation in our camper
-possible strep throat infection (again)
-camp reservation mix-up
-the most thunderous down-pour of a storm I've ever experienced

But we are having fun and loving visiting with my sister and her kids while they are here.

Estate Sale Spoils

That Hudsonville Estate Sale was awesome!

There was sooo much stuff. We barely even scratched the surface.

We went around 4:30pm on Thursday and there was still very long lines. They were handing out numbers.

Pentwater Camping Trip

It’s time for our annual camping trip to Mears State Park in Pentwater. The boys are just a little excited. (sarcasm)

They aren’t the only ones. I really look forward to this vacation. I’m not sure what it is, but I feel lighter…better….more inspired and creative when we are up there. I’m closer to my dad’s farm. Closer to my old stomping grounds. It’s more familiar and I know the area so well. I feel more in my element.

To sum it up- I love it!

Here are some pictures from last year’s trip-

Always a good time :)

Squeeze the most fun you can out of this final month of summer coming up!

I’ll continue blogging short snippets of our trip via my iPhone for those that follow along.

Have an awesome weekend!

photo

2. We are finishing up our mortgage papers today and turning them in before we leave for vacation. We should know the closing date very soon!

3. Here are some almost purchases from recently-

$25 at the ReStore

IMG_1190

Pants at Target- the crotch looks weird. Dress was too small.

IMG_1191IMG_1193

4. One product I bought and am absolutely loving (when I actually wear makeup) is this-

IMG_1209It makes my face look so smooth and almost flawless. It moisturizes at the same time!

5. I tried to go blonde. It didn’t really work.

IMG_1208This is the ‘before’ picture but I didn’t take an ‘after’ picture. (Sorry, very poor lighting). Let’s just say it is not much different than this. I think I’m not meant to be blonde.

6. I’m loving my new purse!

Have a happy-filled day.

Last Blueberry Chance

We went blueberry picking at the end of the week last week. It was hot but actually started to rain on us a little. And it felt good. There isn’t much time left for the blueberries. It’s coming to an end soon, so get them while you can.

We like to go to Gold Barn Blueberry Farm. We love it there.

They have a handy map that shows where the ripe berries are.

IMG_1186

The yellow star indicates where we should pick.

Off we go.

IMG_1187

I didn’t take too many pictures while we were picking the blueberries. I think I was too busy yelling:

“Stop throwing blueberries!”

“Quit fighting!”

“Could you put some of those berries into your bucket instead of your brother’s face.”

“You’re not coming with us next time we go picking.”

Things like that. I was ready to go pretty quickly.

I had two ice cream buckets full (amazingly enough).

IMG_1215

We have eaten a lot. But I like to put most of them into plastic bags and into the freezer. That way they can be used all year long. Nothing beats the taste of them when picked fresh, though.

So I decided to make some muffins with a cup of fresh blueberries.

Because it’s the perfect thing to do when you’re trying not to eat bread and sweets, right?

It’s a little more healthy of a recipe.

  • 1 cup whole wheat pastry flour
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup wheat germ
  • 1/4 cup oats
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 1 banana, mashed
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk*
  • 1/2 cup vanilla Greek yogurt (I used Chobani)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp canola oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

*If you don’t have actual buttermilk on hand, combine 1/2 tbsp lemon juice with 1/2 cup milk and allow to sit for 5 minutes.

Directions:

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 12-cup muffin pan with paper liners or spray with non-stick cooking spray.

In a large bowl, stir together the first 10 ingredients. Gently stir in blueberries. In a separate bowl, mix together the remaining 6 wet ingredients. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry, stirring just until combined. *Do NOT over mix!*

Spoon into muffin cups, filling all the way to the top. Bake for 14-17 minutes, or until the tops of the muffins spring back when lightly touched. ENJOY!

*Here are the changes I made. I didn’t have any wheat flour so I used all white flour. I didn’t have wheat germ so I used more oats instead. And I didn’t use oil but substituted applesauce in its place.

I needed to bake them for longer. They were a little under-cooked (I kinda like that). But very tasty. Worth making again.

Thanks for looking and go get your blueberries!

Purse Poll

I need your help.

I decided it was time for a new purse. I tend to be an impulse shopper. Once I found one I liked, it was vitally important to get a new one. It had to happen right then.

Then I found another one I liked. And then another.

I could not decide for the life of me.

Which one do you like best?

They are all relatively close in price range.

I bought one of them but haven’t taken the tags off yet.

Help me.

Thanks so much!
