Old Bike Made New

We found a garage sale in our neighborhood last week. They didn't have much that appealed to me (small chairs or vintage anything) but they did have some older bikes. My two middle boys are getting a little too big for the bikes they have.

Noah was the one most interested. He found one in decent shape but it was marked at $20. Without even asking the lady said she would take $10. I agreed and we brought it home.

The problem- it kinda had a little bit of pink on it. Once Noah figured this out- we had to paint it. He wasn't going to be happy until we did.

It had a lot of rust too. So, first we sanded it down some and then wiped off the dust with a wet rag.
Then I used black spray paint and sprayed with light even coats.

Then I used painters tape to add some other colors to it. He was determined it would be black, blue, and white.

While spraying it was difficult not to get it on other parts of the bike.
I will definitely have to touch up a few spots with the black. But Noah thinks it looks great and that's all that matters.

Spray paint is an amazing fix for so many things!

Enjoy the holiday weekend!

New Summer Ending Tradition

I read a blog called Centsational Girl. I love her decorating style and the ideas she comes up with.
One I just recently stole. She talked about starting an end of the year tradition. She lets her two kids pick a few things to do before school starts. http://www.centsationalgirl.com/2012/08/bossy-kids

I am doing the same thing. Each kid gets to pick one treat. It can't involve buying new toys, driving too far, or be too expensive.

We are doing JJ's pick today-
Crazy Bounce!

Stay tuned for the remaining boys' picks.
Anyone else have school orientation yesterday? Crazy!

I Have Movie Stars

My hubby recently got an email from a fellow coach from this area. He was in need of some Little League baseball players to help shoot a commercial. It was for Metro Health and would basically be background footage that played while hearing an inspirational story of some kind.

My boys were excited (except for kiddo #3, of course) and willing to help out. JJ would have loved to help if he was old enough. We were instructed on what they should wear and bring. This commercial shoot occurred on a weekday, so naturally I was responsible to round everyone up and get them there.

There was only six boys total (including my two) that showed up. They said that was plenty and proceeded to film them doing various baseball drills.

Here are some photos I decided to take last minute-

The hardest part was when the cameramen asked all the boys to sit on the bench and cheer as if something exciting just happened. This shot took quite a few tries. I told my younger boys to run around the bases so they would have someone to look at and actually cheer on. This worked a little better.

I have no idea when it will start playing or what channel it will be on. But they did take down our email addresses and said they would send a clip when it was finished. Exciting, huh? I’ll post it when I get it.

I got a little video of Cole doing a short part they needed and asked for a volunteer for.

If you happen to see it on TV- let me know!

Allegan Flea Market- again

We made another trip to the Allegan Flea Market on Sunday. There was lots of eye candy once again. I was on the hunt for a kitchen island (and whatever else struck my fancy). So I took a lot of pictures of furniture type items.

If you want to go- there is one more day left. It is the last Sunday of each month through out the summer from 8am to 4pm. So September 29th is the last one of this summer.

Thanks for looking!

Restore & News

The Restore is one of my favorite places to go. (just behind Goodwill & Salvation Army!)

We made a trip there this weekend. It was me and two boys. Scott had the other two boys with him at travel baseball tryouts.

I was casually looking through the menagerie of things when I happened upon this-

A whole kitchen for $600. It also came with this-

A gently used double wall oven included in the price. (I've been shopping for wall ovens for our new house)
It also had a desk area and this glass door cabinet-

A worker came by and found me drooling over the cabinets and said he would take $450 for all of it. I calmly said okay while almost internally combusting!
I went home and called my hubby and told him all about it. As soon as he got home we went back to measure and probably purchase the white kitchen.....

We were informed it had been sold five minutes before we arrived.....

Oh.my.word. Major bummer.
It wasn't meant to be apparently.

I also really liked this sofa. But didn't buy it.

In other very exciting news-
We have a date that we can move in!
NOVEMBER 15!!!!!!!!

Exciting right?! But the problem is, that's a very busy time for us and we won't actually be able to do anything until the beginning of December.

But....~we'll be home for Christmas....you can count on that..... :)

DIY Bench/Table

I am feeling much better. It is amazing how much improving your diet can affect the length of your cold.
I was busy yesterday because I actually had energy to do things. I don't know if anyone noticed but I forgot to post to my blog yesterday morning. It didn't happen until I was going to bed! I doubt anyone was waiting for it but I almost ruined my perfect run of posting every weekday.

Anyhoo- I started a project before I got sick. I got close to completion when my body quit on me.

If you haven't heard of Ana White, google her. She has an amazing site with completely free building plans. That is where I got the plans for my project. (I would put a link on here but I'm on my phone and not quite sure how to do that from here)

I've heard and read great things about the Kreg Jig. I have wanted one for quite some time. So I used some of my birthday money and bought one.

The Kreg Jig was very helpful in getting my project done faster and better. The plans were for a farmhouse bench. But I modified them some to make it wider and taller. I also cut the length down by about a foot. These changes were so that the bench can be sat on but it can also be used as a table for little ones.
This is where I started-

Here is the Kreg Jig-

It makes slanted holes like this-

And this is just before painting it-

It's definitely not perfect, but not bad for my first time using a new tool.
I was in the middle of painting it when I got sick. I will post some final pictures once I'm done.

Have any of you used Ana's site to build anything? If so- let me know! I'd love to hear!

I Need Measurements

The kitchen in our new house needs help. Major help.

While we are in limbo I’ve been doing a lot of renovating in my head. Not of my head. But of the house in my head.

Here is what our kitchen looked like when we viewed the house six months ago.

050

The big debate- Do we find a regular stove and remove some cabinets to put it in or do we buy a terribly expensive wall oven and cooktop to replace the old.

We would have to spend at least twice the amount of the price of a good stove if we stayed with the setup we have now.

Until……

I started doing some shopping on Craigslist. I have found a gas cooktop and gas wall oven for a total of $650.

But I am not sure if they will work because I need to get measurements of the current appliances to see if they will fit.

Here are pictures of the ones available-

My realtor is supposed to be getting back to me about a time I can get the measurements. Time is of the essence!!!

Those appliances won’t last long.

What do you think? Is it a good idea to get appliances from Craigslist? They seem legit and I’ve asked lots of questions about them.

Does anyone have any experience with this?

Healthy Shot & News

I'm under attack.
I feel like poo.
It came all of sudden yesterday.
Terrible sinus headache.

I'm trying a recipe I found online to help combat this evil thing.

It said to take this shot daily-
Juice of one lemon
Fresh ginger(1 oz)
Pinch of cayenne pepper
(I read cinnamon works well too)

We will see how it goes.

House News-
I talked to my realtor yesterday. Good news- we should be closing in about a week.
Bad news- the renters haven't even begun to build their house.
Good news- we won't have to wait for their house to be finished in order to move in. Yay!

Their plans are taking longer than anticipated and we wouldn't be able to move in until March at this point. So they will be starting to look for a different place to live while their house is being built.

It could possibly mean we will be in even sooner than we thought!

Now to kick this cold's butt and get some things done around here.
